New Year, of the Snake

A lot has happened in the nearly 7 weeks since I posted last. We’ve seen the coming of two new years (Gregorian and Lunar calendars), we finished riding in Vietnam and sold the bikes, left Vietnam behind, went to Thailand, booked flights to Myanmar for February 12th-21st, did a 4 day-14 dive live aboard trip out to the Similan Islands of Thailand and had some GREAT dives, booked out a bunch of flights: eastern Malaysia for diving Sipadan, back to western Malaysia for diving the Perhentians, then down to Indonesia April 1st for more diving. We went to Koh Lipe, Thailand for more diving, left Thailand via ferry for Malaysia, ate lots of food in Penang, got sick in Penang (totally unrelated to the food though, just a good old fashioned cold), took an overnight bus (might as well been a refrigerator truck) to Singapore, tried to get our visas for Myanmar while in Singapore and were denied and thereby crushed, but dusted ourselves off, saw the Marina Bay Sands and the Merlion, then got on a bus to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to see if the embassy there would process our visas for Myanmar. I added 47 pages to my passport because I have run out of space for stamps. We finally, finally, finally got our Myanmar visas at the last moment possible before we left and before everything closed down for the Chinese New Year. And now we are just enjoying lounging around until our flight leaves early on the 12th.
They were such good boys

This new year has thus far found us in 4 different countries, given us a lot to think about, and a lot to look forward to in the months to come. I hope that 2013 and the year of the snake hold for us all that we hope for—a year of doing things. Things that make us happy, that make us feel good, that make us stronger people in all the ways that matter, in all the ways that count.

Happy New Year of the Snake everyone!
